Where will this be taking place?

As of today, 10 January, 10 locations in the North West of England will be implementing a loyalty programme as a trial that could see the light of day in 65 other locations if successful. The 10 spots to be testing out the rewards scheme include:

St Helens, Church Street; Aintree; Formby; Kirkby, County Road/Hall Lane; Liverpool, Kensington; Liverpool, Switch Island; Runcorn; Skelmersdale; St Helens, Linkway; Widnes.

How does the rewards program work?

Essentially, for every £1 spent at one of the participating locations, you will receive 100 points which will accumulate into your account on the McDonald's app. For every 1,500 points you've earned, you could claim the following:

  • Small Fries
  • Hash Brown
  • Regular McCafé
  • Mini McFlurry
  • Side Salad
  • £1.50 to donation to charity

For every 2,500 points, this is what you can exchange them for:

  • Double Cheeseburger
  • Bacon Mayo Chicken
  • Veggie Deluxe
  • Medium Fries
  • Cheesy Bacon Flatbread
  • £2.50 donation to charity

And finally, for every 4,000 points, this is what you can get:

  • Six Chicken McNuggets
  • Big Mac
  • McChicken Sandwich
  • Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin
  • Premium Salad
  • £4 donation to charity

Michelle Graham-Clare, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s UK and Ireland said about the newly introduced rewards programme:

As well as rewarding our customers with our iconic menu items, we’re delighted to give customers the option of donating points to the brilliant BBC Children in Need, money which we know will make an incredible difference to the lives of many thousands of young people.

And added:

We can’t wait to hear what our customers in the North West make of the scheme and hope to be able to roll it out further later this year.
