Police Issue Apology After the Siren From 'The Purge' Was Being Used to Signal the Curfew

The current coronavirus quarantine has been in effect in the UK for the past two weeks now, which although was a shock to the population, is a necessary measure to ensure that life can return to normal as soon as possible, while at the same time trying to limit the number of peopleaffected by the virus. The government in the United States is also putting similar measures into place. But Crowley, Louisiana, the police have been trying something different which has not been very well received by locals.

A curfew implemented by the police

In the city of Crowley, a curfew was recently established preventing residents from leaving their homes after 9 pm. The start of this curfew is signalled by a police vehicle driving through the streets blaring a rather strange noise which citizens are really not a fan of.

With hopes to encourage people to stay at home, the local police have actually been using a sound from a horror film. The siren used was taken straight from The Purge saga, a series of films in which residents are allowed to commit any crimes they wish for 12 hours after the siren sounds. According to local news channel KATC, the Crowley police received more than 500 comments on a Facebook post (that has since been taken down) questioning whether this siren is really necessary. Jimmy Broussard, the city’s chief of police, responded that he didn’t know that the siren was from the film and that they don’t plan on using a siren in the future. A little mistake, but one which must have really caused residents to panic.
