Nando’s has surreptitiously raised its prices by 8%

After experiencing the most trying year in its history, the restaurant chain has raised the price of most of its items. For instance, a 55p hike on a whole chicken and a 70p increase on a half chicken and two sides. Ten chicken wings with two sides have increased in price from £14.95 to £15.45, while a houmous with peri-peri drizzle has increased in price from £3.95 to £4.25. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, there are over 450 Nando's restaurants.

Bid to save the food chain

Nando's made the change without informing customers in recent months. It's a setback for Britons who are already struggling to make ends meet. Investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown’s Sarah Coles said,

It’s yet another rise in costs for families being put under pressure from all sides. We’re already having to sacrifice an awful lot of the ‘nice-to-haves’ to make ends meet.
A cheeky Nando’s may have escaped the cut for some because it’s been a relatively affordable treat. Unfortunately, these price hikes may well make people think twice about whether they have to let go of this, too.

Nando's lost £242 million in pre-tax profit in the year to February 2021, up from £99 million the year before. Reportedly, it was due to the continuous escalation in the cost of components and the challenging trading climate generated by Covid.
