If we had to decide on one of the most thrilling and most notable TV shows of the 2010s, it would be impossible not to mention Game of Thrones as a credible candidate. Broadcasted on HBO, the show became a bonafide cultural phenomenon and captivated millions of fans around the world.

Will the Targaryen family secrets soon be revealed?

Although the eighth and final season was a bit of a disappointment (to say the least), Game of Thrones still has a huge following that HBO intends to exploit a little further. Although we weren’t surprised to hear that spin-offs and prequels were being planned, it has been a while since we’ve had any news…

Game of Thrones prequel begins casting

Fans can settle down now, the prequel entitled House of the Dragon is currently in production and casting is now underway. Based on the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, who will soon(?) be releasing his much-anticipated volume 6 of the Game of Thrones saga, this new series will give us the opportunity to discover the history of the House Targaryen, 300 years before Game of Thrones took place. Just like the fantastic universe, the original book is rather consistent since it takes place over 150 years and includes the rise and fall of several rulers of Westeros. However, it remains to be seen how faithful the series will be to the original novel…

However, some sources have been talking about a storyline centring around the Targaryen Civil War, commonly known as the ‘Dance of Dragons’ which plunged Westeros into a bloodbath. We should hopefully be able to meet a lot of notable characters such as Viserys I, the fifth Targaryen King, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the heiress chosen by King Viserys, Queen Alicent Hightower, Viserys’ ambitious second wife and Rhaenyra’s stepmother as well as Aegon II Targaryen, Princess Rhaenyra’s young half-brother, who, by challenging his right to the throne, triggers the civil war.

This series already looks like it is going to gain quite a following before it is even aired and Ryan Condal (Colony) is set to be the showrunner while director Miguel Sapochnik will direct the pilot and a few additional episodes. Although we’re going to have to be patient and wait for more information on the plot, we do already know that HBO has, for the moment, committed to doing 10 episodes.
