A second life-threatening bike accident

The accident comes after the father-of-one sustained a similar road mishap just a year-and-a-half ago that required him to undergo surgery for his broken back. According to reports, Cowell was catapulted off his e-bike, prompting onlookers to call the ambulance and stop ongoing traffic to prevent him from getting run over by cars.

He was later rushed to the hospital and came out of it with a cast up to his shoulder and orders to get rest. He was discharged from the hospital later that evening and has since promised to wear a helmet as a precaution. A source close to the star told The Sun:

Simon is lucky to be alive. He was pedalling along, with his electric motor on, when the wheels suddenly went from under him after hitting a wet patch. He slipped and went flying over the handlebars into the middle of the road.

And added:

Despite this being his second great escape, Simon insists he's not ditching the bike - but he will start wearing a helmet.

'Get back on your bike'

In 2021, when the Britain's Got Talent judge suffered a similar accident, he explained the experience to have been the catalyst to leading a more healthy lifestyle and appreciating the little things in life. He said:

That expression 'get back on your bike,' with me, it was literal. I feel better than I did because I exercise so much more.

Before adding:

Honestly, if I could rewind, I would have gone through the whole thing again. Just because I feel better now. Yeah, even though it hurt like hell at the time.
