The actor collided with another skier in the middle of the afternoon on the La Rosière ski area in Montvalezan, Savoie, France, at the junction of two blue runs (the Tétras and Gélinotte runs).
Anne Gaches, the public prosecutor in Albertville, said:
Gaspard Ulliel collided with another skier at the top of the blue Tetras piste, as he had just turned left, presumably to join his friends who were on the Gellinotte piste.
The other skier was unhurt and wearing a helmet.
The intersection between the two runs was not dangerous. A ski patroller from the resort told the newspaper Le Parisien:
It's more like a fork where the piste splits in two. At this point, the terrain rises a few metres. The experts know that you have to go fast to get over this bump without pushing on the poles.
The skiing conditions were good. Found unconscious after the impact, the 37-year-old actor 'was not wearing a helmet,' according to the Dauphiné Libéré. The other skier, who was in a state of shock, was unharmed and will be examined by the CRS.
According to the prosecutor in charge of the case, if the actor had worn a mask, the consequences would have been the same, reports France Inter.
Details of the accident
Found unconscious, witnessed called the station's emergency services. The medical services took care of the two-time Oscar-winning actor. The other skier remained at the scene of the collision while the rescue team worked on him.
An hour after the collision, Gaspard Ulliel was flown by helicopter to the University Hospital in Grenoble. His vital prognosis was already engaged.
The actor, who was on holiday with his family, had been in a relationship with Gaëlle Petri since 2013. He leaves behind a little boy, Orso, born in 2016.
