Star Wars 8: A Deleted Scene Reveals The 3rd Lesson Luke Skywalker Teaches Rey

Whether you loved it or hated it, you must have noticed that one thing was mysteriously missing from the newest Star Wars film The Last Jedi: the 3rd lesson Luke promised to teach Rey. As if you couldn’t already guess, there will be spoilers in this article.

The third and final lesson Luke was to give Rey on the Jedi was unfortunately left on the cutting room floor, however the scene has just recently been revealed.

After finally giving into Rey’s pleas to teach her about the ways of the Jedi, Luke accepts to give her three lessons. The first lesson is that the Force, and furthermore the light side, does not belong to the Jedi, it belongs to everyone. It is found in all things.

The second lesson Luke tries to impart on Rey is the fact that the Jedi have failed in the face of the Sith and the dark side. He believes that, in their attempt to bring order to the galaxy, they created more bad than good.

The third and final lesson is suspiciously missing from the final cut. In the deleted scene, Rey sees boats heading towards the caretakers’ village, which she believes to be bandits as Luke tells her they regularly come to terrorise the people. Believing the helpless caretakers are in danger, and against Luke’s advice, Rey goes off to their aid.

She charges towards to village, only to find a party occurring with even Chewbacca and R2D2 in attendance. She then realises Luke had lied and learns the final lesson – sometimes a Jedi must turn a blind eye and not interfere in order to maintain the balance. Understandably, this lesson does not sit well with Rey as she believes that help should always be given when possible.

The scene will be available in its entirety when it releases on DVD / Blu-ray this March.
