We finally know what the best film of the 2010s was!

At the end of 2020, talking about cinema is quite complicated. Lots of big films that were planned to be released over recent weeks have had to be postponed due to the current health situation and we still don’t know when we will finally get back to normal. Get Out voted best film of the 2010s

In a possible attempt to forget about this difficult situation and reboot people’s excitement for cinema, The Hollywood Reporter decided to take on a rather difficult mission: choosing the best film of the 2010s. To do this, the media sought the help of 3,500 professionals from the world of cinema and asked them about their favourite films between 2010 and 2019, very similarly to a poll… and now we know what the best film of the 2010s is!

And the big winner was Get Out, Jordan Peele’s horrific thriller that was released in 2017, and which also caused Kanye West a hell of a beating. The film is a story of a young African American man who visits his girlfriend’s white family and quickly realises there was a sinister reason behind his invitation. When he realises that the tense atmosphere is linked to differences between their skin colours, a series of increasingly disturbing incidents occur that make his stay horrible. As well as its cinematographic qualities, the film was a huge success, notably due to the fact that it addressed the issue of racism and violence that we know is still very present among the African-American community.

A few Marvel and Harry Potter films in the Top 10

Alongside Get Out, the rest of the list will surely make some moviegoers scream, but don’t forget that this was conducted as a poll. Among the other movies on the list were 12 Years a Slave and Black Panther, the sequel to which will be very different due to the death of Chadwick Boseman. Also on the list was Inception, Avengers Endgame (featuring one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe), La La Land, A Star is Born, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Argo and Bridesmaids.

The rest of the top 20 is also great: Birdman, The Social Network, Max Max: Fury Road, Female Agents, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Hunger Games, Wonder Woman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Call Me by Your Name and finally, in 20th place, The King’s Speech.
