When he went up against Khabib Nurmagomedov, which was the most anticipated fight in 2018, Conor McGregor didn’t give the performance that we expected from him. After four rounds in which he was mostly dominated by the champion in the field, the Notorious was forced to call it quits, after the Russian got him in a rear choke hold. This was a bitter defeat for the Irishman who had to put on a brave face during his comeback after a long absence of more than two years.

Realisation

Although the Notorious has already looked back on the mistakes he made during the fight, this time, he chose to reflect on those he made while he was preparing for the fight. A sincere token, that shows a certain awareness and realisation for Conor McGregor:

‘My attacking game is still catching up as you can see. I will keep building. For I am a brick wall. Before I went into my last camp, I was doing extensive work in the gi and my attacking came was developing really well. My submissions were becoming a lot more frequent. I was supremely confident in my attacking. For some reason though, I went into camp and focused solely on defence. I trained to disengage. To Anti grapple. To avoid. I disrespected my own attacking game and became a stranger to it. I allowed outside influence to filter into my own thinking. I don’t know what I was thinking back then. I will not make that mistake again. I am going to literally tear these men apart now. Watch me. One by f*cking one.’

Since he’s realised where he was going wrong, we can’t wait to see Conor McGregor come back to the ring stronger than ever.
