The investigation into the Benjamin Mendy case is continuing. The left-back is accused of several counts of rape and sexual assault on three women, including a minor. On Monday, The Sun reports that two teammates of the Frenchman at Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish, could be heard as witnesses in his trial.

Mahrez and Grealish with Mendy on the night of 23 August?

According to information from the tabloid, the two Sky Blues strikers were allegedly in the company of Benjamin Mendy on 23 August 2021, when the 2018 World Cup winner allegedly raped a 17-year-old woman. As a result, The Sun suggests that the Englishman and the Algerian may be contacted by the courts in preparation for the trial.

According to a source close to the case interviewed by the newspaper, neither player is involved:

They saw each other in one place and then moved on to several others. But Grealish and Mahrez did not return to Mendy's house that night.

A trial scheduled for 2022

Currently incarcerated at Liverpool's HMP Altcourse prison, Benjamin Mendy's future is looking bleak. Last week, his third request for release was refused by the courts. This is a serious blow for the defender, who will remain in detention until his trial scheduled for January 2022. However, the defender will still be able to take advantage of the 12-week football training programme offered by his institution.
