A poll conducted by British takeaway app Foodhub has found that the UK's favourite cheese is American-style sliced processed cheese.
What Brits love the most
Typically used in fast-food restaurants to make grilled cheeses and burgers, 40% of respondents chose this type of cheese as their favourite out of a variety of others. Rounding up the UK's top 10 favourite cheeses include:

- Red Leicester - 19%
- Halloumi - 18%
- Brie - 17%
- Stilton - 15%

When it came to answering which country participants believed produced the best cheese, Britain took the number one spot with 56%, beating out usual-favourites France, Italy and the Netherlands. French cheeses came in second place with 30% of the votes. Ardian Mula, spokesperson at Foodhub, said:
We already know that Britain loves its cheese. However, we're surprised at how well received the processed cheese slice has been. A lot of people turn their nose up at this product but, our research clearly shows it is the nation's favourite.
Clearly much of this comes from the fact we love it on burgers and sandwiches. Cheese is one of the most versatile foods out there, so whether you're grating some parmesan on your pasta, indulging in a margherita pizza or even after a delicious cheesecake dessert, Foodhub has a wide selection of restaurant providers that will tackle those cheesy cravings.
What exactly is processed cheese?
This type of cheese is made up of a selection of natural cheeses that vary in both degree of sharpness and overall flavour. They are first shredded before heated into a molten mass consisting of protein, water and oil that emulsifies to become what is known as processed cheese emulsion.
