I’m A Celeb: Extra Camp Has Been Axed In Shock ITV Decision

It’s official – when I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!returns for its twentieth series this November, it will no longer be accompanied by its ITV2 companion show Extra Camp. ITV2 producers have decided to axe the reality show due to the high costs of making it compared to its non-primetime slot.

I’m A Celebrity: Extra Camp has been running for as long as the main show, with the first series (then titled I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here Now!) fronted by Louise Loughman. Since then the show has had a number of presenters including Joe Swash, Jeff Brazier, Matt Willis and the late Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

This year, the companion show faced big changes as both Joe Swash and Scarlett Moffatt stepped down from their presenting duties. This left comedian and former campmate Joel Dommett at the helm alongside new presenters Adam Thomas and Emily Atack – who had also previously been in the jungle themselves.

Why has Extra Camp been axed?

According to an ITV source who spoke to The Sun newspaper: ‘Bosses are focusing on growing ITV2’s prime-time offering on the channel and Extra Camp, sadly, isn’t a part of that. The show is quite expensive to make and, in the current climate, they’ve had to make a tough commercial decision.’
Joel Dommett has reacted to the news in an Instagram statement, saying: ‘The time has unfortunately come to put Extra Camp to bed in its uncomfortable hammock. The show will no longer continue. It’s been a huge privilege to be a part a show with such a rich history filled with amazing hosts. The producers have assured me that @emilyatackofficial @adamthomas21and myself are not to blame.’
