Game of Thrones fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the broadcast of the final season, which begins on the night of April 14-15. There is only a short time to wait, but for British viewers, there's the question of how to watch it as the series only comes out on HBO. And for those who are not subscribers, there are two solutions: illegal downloading and streaming or... waiting until the release of the DVD.

The risk of spoilers will probably quickly eliminate the second solution. But illegal downloading on torrent sites could be rather perilous.

Worrying figures

Firstly, because it’s illegal. But also because the Game of Thrones series is a favourite for cybercriminals. According to a study published by the anti-virus software company Kaspersky and taken up by French newspaper Le Parisien, the series alone accounted for 17% of infected content in 2018, or 20,934 internet users. And this even though there wasn't a new series last year!

Internet criminals attack in particular the end-of-season episodes, as well as the very first of the series, according to the study. Just after Game of Thrones, the series The Walking Dead and Arrow are also popular targets for cybercriminals.
