In popular culture, it’s widely known that sharks get a lot of bad press from films like Jaws, which helped to spread the idea that sharks are dangerous.
However, “a shark which attacks a man in a voluntary, targeted and repetitive way, is never seen in nature,” states diver and marine photographer Laurent Ballesta. As an experienced film buff, he untangled fact from fiction, specifically about sharks.
Despite these precautions, the fact remains that sharks are particularly impressive animals. It is probably for this reason that the images above send shivers down your spine.
Filmed in 2016, they show the impressive meeting between a kayaker and a shark. While he was cruising off the coast of Panama City Beach, in Florida, he received an impromptu visit.
In front of the eyes and smartphones of passers-by, the giant animal slowly approached the kayaker. For comparison, the kayak measured a little more than 4 metres…which says a lot about the size of the shark.
