Ryan Reynolds is in the best shape of his life. The 42-year-old (yes, you read that right) American actor has once again had to get jacked for the filming of Deadpool 3. Two pictures of his buff bod were recently shared by his coach, the equally famous Don Saladino.

In a Podcast interview with Slate magazine, Don Saladino explained how he worked with Ryan Reynolds to build the body of the funniest super anti-hero out there. And according to him, there's no secret to success: train smart, eat right and get enough rest.

Listen, everyone fights the same fight. I gotta be honest—a lot of people that I’ve worked with in the past, they struggle with it. They have temptations with food, or they might be tired, and I think it’s just finding that switch. It’s giving them the ability to feel successful every day. - Don Saladino @Slate

For recovery, the American coach recommends getting 7-9 hours of sleep a night. So far, nothing we haven't heard already. In terms of nutrition, Don Saladino simply recommends controlling your portions, with this small trick to calculate your food intake.

Your protein source should be roughly the size of your palm, your carb source could be your fist, and your fat source could be your thumb—oils or nuts, seeds, whatever it is. Weight loss is really simple. It’s just about maintaining blood sugar levels.

Previously, we explainedwhat happens to your body when you stop eating sugar.Balanced blood sugar levels reduce hunger, snacking and junk food cravings.

"I know guys that spend three to five hours in the gym every day, and they look terrible"

When it comes to working out, Don Saladino insists that the key is to train smarter, not harder. Time spent at the gym means nothing if it isn't time well-spent. So, a one-and-a-half-hour workout can be a waste of time compared to a 45-minute workout.

I know guys that go around, they kill themselves, three to five hours in the gym every day, and they look terrible. - Don Saladino @Slate

In order for a workout to be effective, it needs to work for you. There's no point in following celebrities' workout plans because they don't have the same composition as you, the same level of fitness as you, or the same goals as you. "The biggest problem right now is that if I hand you a five-week program that Ryan Reynolds did, no offence, you’re not going to do it. Don’t worry about what Ryan does. Let’s focus on what we can find to allow you to be successful," says Saladino.

In fact, the secret is that there is no secret. This applies to both movie stars and you. Actors may have better gyms, trainers, and nutritionists, but that doesn't mean they get to ignore the three basic rules of bodybuilding.
