We all remember the optical illusion dating back to 2015. Was the dress black and blue or white and gold? Today it’s a new auditory illusion that’s divided the entire web.

In the video that first appeared on Reddit, we hear an artificial voice pronounce a single world. Some people hear ‘Yanny’ while others hear ‘Laurel’. Opinions are divided and nobody can agree!

But how is it possible? David Alais, professor of psychology at the University of Sydney gave his explanation to the guardian, saying that ‘they can be seen in two ways and often the mind flips back and forth between the two interpretations. This happens because the brain can’t decide on a definitive interpretation’.

The specialist goes on to say that two other parameters also come into play: age and accent. On the one hand, the accent of the English language can be perceived differently depending on where it comes from. On the other hand, we perceive sounds differently depending on our age.

So what do you hear? Yanny or Laurel?
