Two different pilots have reported seeing a mysterious man flying thousands of feet in the air above the city.
The first sight was from an American Airlines pilot who was on the approach to the LA International Airport at around 6:30 pm on the 30th of August who claimed he saw a 'guy in a jetpack'. The pilot stated in an audio log:
Tower, American 1997. We just passed a guy in a jetpack.
The air traffic controller replied without skipping a beat:
American 1997, okay, thank you. Were they off to your left or right side?
The pilot replied stating that the man was off about 300 yards to the left at around 3000ft in the air, the same altitude as the plane. That's pretty high up.
But, this wasn't the only sighting of the man. Another pilot from Jet Blue airlines also reported they mystery jetpacker to the air traffic controller who sent out a warning to another airline crew. The controllers stated:
JetBlue 23, use caution, person in a jet pack reported 300 yards south of the LA final at about 3,000 feet, 10 mile final.
A surprise respondent replied:
JetBlue 23, we heard and we are definitely looking.
Another pilot was later heard saying:
Only in LA.
The sighting of the jetpack man was confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in a statement:
Two airline flight crews reported seeing what appeared to be someone in a jet pack as they were on their final approaches to LAX around 6.35 pm PDT Sunday. The FAA alerted local law enforcement to the reports, and is looking into these reports.
A spokesperson for the FBI's field office has confirmed that they have received reports of the sighting and are underway trying to figure out who pulled off the incredible stunt.
The FBI still hasn't found the suspect but many suspect they were trying to pull off the feat for social media. And, this isn't the first time a trick like this has been pulled off. Back in 2015 Yves Rossy and his partner Vince Reffet flew in jetpacks alongside an Emirates plane above Dubai after they were dropped off in a helicopter.
However, this incident of the man with a jetpack was not nearly as publicised as Yves and Vince's stunt so the investigation continues.
