Last month, an alligator named George decided to make a snack out of a flying drone and the whole hunt was caught on camera. The unbelievable incident took place in the Everglades, a national park in South Florida, also known as the ‘river of grass’. The national park is a protected wetland where all kinds of animals can be found, including the infamous alligator that roams the rivers of Florida.
Robot vs Wild
Given the flourishing biodiversity of the park, you can expect to see many amazing natural spectacles, but this event was unlike any other. It was captured by a TikTok user and put online for the whole world to see on 22 August.
In the video, you can see an alligator devouring a drone that was flying very close to the waters, just a few centimetres away from the animal’s head. The robot must have annoyed the already starving beast, so what did the George do? He snapped up the drone, and munched on its wiry interiors. We’re not sure if he confused the piece of technology for a bird or an insect, but it certainly gobbled it up with no regrets.
Up in smokes
If you think seeing an alligator attack a drone is impressive, what you’ll see next will blow your mind. After the alligator begins chewing the life out of the drone, thick smoke can be seen coming out of his mouth. Soon enough the alligator is engulfed in smoke but he’s still adamant on swallowing the entire machine.
Whether or not his meal had any repercussions on his body is unknown, but for now he seems to have survived the ordeal. Devhlanger, the user who posted the video, confirmed that he was okay and wrote:
Here is the alligator eating the drone combined. George is doing fine and still looked hungry after.
We were trying to get a close up of the gator with its mouth open and thought the obstacle avoidance would make the drone fly away.
