Everywhere in the world, there is a dark future awaiting couples. This is the prediction by the British researcher David Spiegelhalter. This statistician conducted a study published by the University of Cambridge, which announced that at the beginning of 2030, that is in a decade or so, couples will no longer have an active love life.

To arrive at this prediction, he interviewed couples aged 16 to 64 on the frequency of their bedroom activities every month. Over the years, it appears that couples are having less and less fun considering previous decades. In 1990, the average was 5 times per month, against 4 in 2000 and only 3 in 2010. By 2030, this figure could well reach 0.

A problem for fertility

Why? The hyper-connection of our societies, which causes screens, shows and social networks to replace our intimacy. According to the scientist, we are much too busy and the time we spent getting down and dirtyhas been replaced by our love of screens.

‘This massive connectedness, combined with the constant consultation of our phones... A few years ago, the television was off at 10:30 at night, and there was nothing else to do. [...] Today, people have less and less time to make love,’ says Pr. Spieghalter.

The scientist goes on to worry about the consequences that this trend could have on fertility. ‘If you have a lot of (bedroom fun), you are more likely to conceive before peak infertility,’ he says. The birthrate in England and Wales is at an all-time low, with 1.80 births per woman in 2016. So, let's forget the binge-watching and figure out our priorities!
