Brigitte and Christophe Demassougne have just released a rather unusual announcement that many first assumed to be an April Fool’s Prank. This couple originally from Périgord in the South of France, decided to launch a competition with a registration fee of 13 euros, in which you can win their 19th century property, entirely renovated and estimated to be worth around 2 million euros, equating to roughly £1,750,000.

This sublime property, that you can check out in the video at the top of this article, includes 7 hectares of land, a main house measuring 450m2, two additional guesthouses measuring 50m2 and 100m2, a swimming pool, a tennis court, five horse stalls and a hangar. Nothing less than that.

‘It’s a competition, not just a game of chance’

‘Four years ago, I hosted a British man in one of our guesthouses and he sold his house through the lottery with a two-euro ticket. There were 500,000 participants. The idea came from that. But in France, the lottery is forbidden! So, with the help of a lawyer, we’ve been developing this game for a year so that it complies with the rules,’ explained the host of the property, to the French publication 20 Minutes.

And so, how can you win? As Brigitte says, ‘it’s a competition, not just a game of chance with a raffle draw’. The lucky chosen person will need to come to the site, correctly answer two general culture questions about Périgord and finally estimate the value of three objects: a calligraphy binding on parchment, a model of ‘Chelsea Boots’ and a 18k gold gadjo sleeve. Whoever gets the closest to the actual amount will win the (big) jackpot!

The competition will open on 1st December and you will have 8 months to try your luck… if all goes well. Because the couple needs to ‘wait until there are 150,000 participants to make the numbers work,’ and their house can be sold for the desired price, of £175,000.

‘If that isn’t the case, we will be able to prolong the competition by five months. But I’m sure that won’t be necessary,’ said Brigitte.
