COVID-19: he lost his sense of taste and proves it by eating weird things

An American has become a star on social networks. Infected with the coronavirus, he lost his sense of taste and posted several videos of himself online where he can be seen eating weird things he finds at home.

While some symptoms of the coronavirus are rare, there is one that has affected many people: loss of sense of taste. This is the case with Russell Donnelly, a 30-year-old, living in Jersey City in New Jersey in the United States. A few days ago, he tested positive for Covid-19 and went into isolation. He is now creating a buzz on social networks thanks to his loss of sense of taste.

Hilarious videos

I am currently positive with Covid and I have no more taste. Everyone keeps telling me to try and eat the worst stuff but I don't have anything like that at home so I thought I would just eat some really strong or bitter stuff just to see how it feels.

This is what Russell Donnelly said about the first footage posted on his Instagram and TikTok accounts. Then followed a series of videos where he could be seen eating an onion, and even wasabi in an Oreo.

‘The body continues to react’

Within a few days, Russell Donnelly's videos were a hit. He garnered millions of views and even caught the attention of Buzzfeed, who then interviewed him:

I could feel the onion in my sinuses a little bit, but really very little. Garlic paste was the easiest. I drank lemon juice several times and if I kept it in my mouth for a while my mouth would tighten up like when you taste something bitter, but there was no flavour. The body continues to react chemically. It's just that the taste buds don't work.

Would you dare try eating these delicious snacks?
