Finally: UFC is back
After having put its events on hold over the last few weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic currently affecting the whole world, the UFC is ready to get back out there. On Saturday, May 9th, 2020, the first post-pandemic event is officially taking place, with an insanely stacked card.
In the main event of the evening, Tony Ferguson will fight for the interim lightweight belt, facing off against Justin Gaethje, which could be a FOTY contender. The UFC has ensured that all necessary precautions are being taken to avoid contaminating not only the fighters but also the entire technical service and media.
Completely understandable that main eventer Tony Ferguson wasn't excluded from Covid-19 screening test. In a video he relayed on his social networks, the American can be seen having a cotton swab inserted in his nose to make sure he isn’t carrying the virus. This video was then shared around the web by El Cucuy fans.
UFC 249: Ferguson vs Gaethje
This weekend on Saturday, May 9, Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje will compete for the interim lightweight title. The winner of the fight will the go on to face undisputed champion Khabib Nurmagomedov later in 2020.
In addition to this incredible main event, Henry Cejudo will defend his bantamweight belt against former champion Dominick Cruz. Cejudo has been on a roll as of late, but Cruz is notorious for his ability to not get hit. We'll see if his footwork is enough to capture him a win.
In a heavyweight bout, we'll be seeing Francis Ngannou face Jairzinho Rozenstruik. This is a fight that probably won't last too long and prove to be explosive.
