It’s been over two years since we saw Carina Lepore become Lord Sugar’s business partner by winning The Apprentice in December 2019. Since then, the COVID-19 pandemic has stood in the way of new series being filmed. But now, The Apprentice is finally back, with the first episode of series 16 set to air on Thursday, 6 January.

The Apprentice 2022 line-up

Sixteen candidates are vying for a place as Lord Sugar’s next business partner. The majority of them are already business owners, but the cast also includes a former RAF instructor, a pharmacist and a finance manager.

Hotel front-of-house manager Brittany Carter is this year’s youngest candidate, at just 25 years old. She is hoping Lord Sugar will choose to invest in her business idea for alcoholic protein drinks. Meanwhile, this year’s oldest candidate is 48-year-old beauty brand owner Amy Anzel. The New York-born entrepreneur has previously worked as an actress, appearing in the film Kick Ass 2 and as herself in the first ever series of The Bachelor.

This year’s silliest quote award goes to 28-year-old digital marketing agency owner Akshay Thakrar—who says ‘My friends call me AK47 because I'm a killer salesperson’ and claims his first word as a baby was ‘profit.’

The Apprentice 2022 aides

While Lord Sugar and his right-hand woman Karren Brady will both be back in the boardroom, Claude Littner won’t be returning this series while he recovers from injuries from a cycling accident. He’s been replaced by series 1 winner and co-founder of Bright Ideas Trust Tim Campbell for this series.

The Apprentice 2022 tasks

The first two tasks the Apprentice 2022 candidates will face have already been revealed. The first week will see them asked to come up with a marketing campaign for a new cruise liner. Week two will see the teams tasked with designing an electric toothbrush and an app encouraging kids to brush their teeth.

The Apprentice 2022 starts at 9pm on BBC One on Thursday, 6 January.
