I’m A Celeb 2021 has only just drawn to a close, but ITV is already looking ahead to next year’s series. While many viewers are hoping that the show could finally return to the Australian jungle in 2022, show producers have already optioned Gwrych Castle for next year’s show.

I’m A Celeb 2022 location

This year’s series of I’m A Celeb was plagued with difficulties—mostly relating to Storm Arwen—so it seems likely producers would be keen to return to Australia. However, an insider quoted by The Sun said:

At the moment it is pretty much nailed on for a third year in the castle. Australia is opening up but could also snap shut at any time depending on how things go so that situation is far from being on an even footing. The executives are happy to stick with Gwyrch Castle for another year and then after that the show might finally get back Down Under.

ITV producers have reportedly ‘optioned’ Gwrych Castle, meaning that the castle’s trustees will keep the castle free for the I’m A Celeb filming period until further notice. While it’s far from certain that I’m A Celeb will face a third year in the castle, it doesn’t look good for those hoping the show would return Down Under.

Australia’s border situation

There is some positive news though. As of 15 December, fully vaccinated visa holders are allowed to travel into Australia without a travel exemption. In theory, this should make it possible for the show to return. However, there’s no telling what the situation will be this time next year, and show bosses may decide not to take the risk of planning a series in Australia when restrictions could change again.
