Let’s hope that your deodorant is efficient, because according to Dr. Elaine Larson the ideal shower frequency is... twice a week.
‘I think showering is mostly for aesthetic reasons. People think they’re showering for hygiene or to be cleaner, but bacteriologically, that’s not the case,’ says the Colombia University professor.
Certain body parts require more hygiene
The human body generates bacteria that are good for our skin. Showering too often disrupts the bacteria population and can strip your skin of its natural oils. ‘Your body is naturally a well-oiled machine. A daily shower isn’t necessary,' adds Dr. C. Brandon Mitchell. However, you should still practice proper hygiene. If you shower twice a week only, your face, your intimate body parts and your hands need more regular care.
