Cigarettes, a nasty habit for the Peaky Blinders

The adventures of Tommy Shelby have thrilled the show’s many fans and they are starting to feel impatient. You may not have noticed, but the characters in the series are constantly smoking. And one of the actors on the show is said to have smoked an astronomical number of cigarettes.

This actor is Cillian Murphy who plays Tommy Shelby, the main character in the series! According to the props department, the actor could have actually smoked more than 1000 cigarettes while filming. That’s quite a record and raises another significant point: yes, the cigarettes that appear in the series are actually real.

Second-hand smoke isn’t harmless

Rest assured though; Tommy Shelby is more likely to die at the hands of his enemies than to be struck down by lung cancer. In fact, the actors never inhale the smoke, but just hold it in their mouths before spitting it out.

However, it’s worth remembering that second-hand smoke is still deadly and ‘puffing away’ on cigarettes won’t stop other mouth diseases from appearing.

If you really want to be like Tommy – and we understand why you might – don’t follow his smoking habits but stick to his fashion sense instead, your health will thank you for it.
