This Whale Shark Had Been Suffering For Years... Until A Diver Jumped Into Action

Video footage shows a diver jumping to the rescue of a poor whale shark trapped in a fishing rope that was cutting its flesh. Fortunately, the giant creature kindly let itself be approached so it could regain its freedom. Breathtaking.

There's a saying that one always needs someone smaller than oneself, and this whale shark's story is proof. The poor marine giant was trapped in a fishing rope that cut through its flesh. But a team of divers was lucky enough to help it and free it from these chains.

Judging by the wounds left on the whale shark's body, it would seem that its ordeal lasted several months, even years. This is probably why it was so cooperative when a diver came to slice the rope and release it.

Impressive longevity

The man, however, was in little danger. It should be noted that the whale shark, although quite massive, moves slowly and is totally devoid of aggressiveness. It is therefore widely considered harmless to humans and feeds mainly on plankton and algae. In fact, it is often cited to contradict the bad reputation of sharks.

Now, the giant creature can continue to live a happy life in the ocean. Scientists believe that whale sharks, the largest fish on Earth, can live between 100 and 150 years!

This type of interaction is unfortunately not a rare finding in the ocean. Non-profit organizations regularly help seals that get entangled in fishing nets and other plastic waste.
