Gareth Thomas

Gareth Thomas played for Wales from 1997 to 2005 and made 100 appearances for the national team. Just recently he has opened up about a really embarrassing story about one of his international matches.

The incident

Gareth Thomas explained that during one of his matches, he got a bout of food poisoning as it was going around the camp. During the game, he ran into an issue. He said that within the first five minutes of the match he had a really bad stomach ache. He then got tackled and when he stood up, realised he had had a slight accident in his pants...

The physio had to be called on to the pitch and asked what was wrong. Thomas tried to say he had a concussion but the physio kept telling him that he had passed all the tests. The physio eventually got him off the pitch on a stretcher as Thomas couldn’t walk, for ‘obvious reasons’. He then returned to the pitch as a sub after cleaning himself up. He said:

So I had to go off on a stretcher, have a shower, then come back on the field.

He also added ‘I think the thing that makes it embarrassing is thinking that so many other people have seen it.’ The host didn’t help with the embarrassment as he wanted to make sure the public fully understood by asking Gareth Thomas if it was a number one or a number two. He asked:

So without putting two much detail into it... was it one or two?

To which Thomas replied:

Two.
