On 30 October, Ed Sheeran was expected to make an appearance on Saturday Night Live as their musical guest, but it looks like it's now been put on hold as he announced that he tested positive for COVID. The British singer-songwriter posted the unfortunate news on his Instagram account and confirmed that he is currently self isolating. He wrote:

Hey guys. Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for Covid, so I’m now self-isolating and following government guidelines. It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house. Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone x.

SNL appearance

Although Sheeran did mention that he may be carrying out his commitments online, Page Six has revealed that the show may still be dropping his performance. According to a source, producers are now frantically looking for another artist to replace him. The source said:

Ed is offering to perform live via video link, but this isn’t something ‘SNL’ does.
The show likes to have the performer in studio.

Ed Sheeran could not have caught COVID at a worse time, especially given that hisnew album ‘Equals’ is set to be released on 29 October.

New album

The last album the 30-year-old artist released was back in 2017, and fans have eagerly been waiting for his next to drop. When he announced the release of 'Equals', back in August, he said it would be his most personal record till date. He said:

‘=’ (Equals) is a really personal record and one that means a lot to me,” he said in the announcement. “My life changed greatly over the past few years – I got married, became a father, experienced loss, and I reflect on these topics over the course of the album. I see it as my coming-of-age record, and I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you.
