It’s the type of trick that only works in the movies. However, Alisson Garret, an American student, got 100% by writing just one sentence, despite the minimum of 500 words required.

But how did she manage to pull this off? Thanks to a large dose of ingenuity, as the website Boredpanda recently reported. The subject of the essay was a film synopsis, and the teen decided to do hers on Fight Club by David Fincher. Her essay was composed of just one sentence: “The first rule of fight club is: you do not talk about fight club” (see the video above).

Marks for humour

For those who have never seen the film featuring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, this phrase is repeated a few times and has become an iconic staple for the movie. The student, proud of her ingenuity, wrote an email to her teacher in which she explained: “I saw an opportunity and I took it. I’m not going to apologise, because that would be lying. Am I proud of myself? Yes.”

Alisson Garret’s teacher decided to give her the top mark, 100/100: "I paused over this mark for a long time. In the end, I decided to mark you on your humour, and on the fact that your approach was very relevant in relation to this film in particular. Let me warn you: don’t try and recreate this sort of thing with other teachers, they might not have my sense of humour”, commented the professor.
