Following the departure of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United has spent a considerable sum every year trying to stay at the top, with varying levels of success.

At the end of the 2012-13 season, Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United manager for 27 years, retired. A page in the club’s history was turned and a transition period began, and the club owners spared no expense in an attempt to ease the supporters through this rough transition. In all, United spent almost £780 million in the transfer market over 5 seasons!
