Fast food giant McDonald's have listened to customer concerns about the environment and have begun rolling out paper straws across their UK stores. However, not everybody is happy - and the new development has left some customers fuming.

Over 30,000 people have signed a petition calling on McDonald's to change their straws back to the old plastic ones as customers complain that the paper straws disintegrate in minutes, leaving milkshakes with a nasty taste.

Last September, McDonald's UK chief exec Paul Pomroy promised that the sustainable paper straws would be rolled out in 2019, saying: 'Reflecting the broader public debate, our customers told us they wanted to see a move on straws but to do so without compromising their overall experience when visiting our restaurants.'

However, it seems that their good intentions have backfired somewhat as McDonald's have been hit with a barrage of furious comments from angry customers.
