A problem that’s already happening

According to reports, the Gulf of Cadiz is the most likely to be struck by this famous tsunami, but it is also completely unprepared for a disaster of this magnitude. This type of phenomenon already happened in 1755, when a gigantic tsunami hit Lisbon, causing between 50,000 and 70,000 casualties.

According to scientists, this catastrophe is inevitable, and they are worried about how unprepared the government is to deal with such an issue. “Governments aren’t doing anything, what needs to be done has already been written in black and white, politicians are aware of this seismic risk. We can reduce it”, says Mario Lopes, a Portuguese scientist.
