These 10 athletes all had trouble with the law
Throughout the history of sports, many professional athletes have found themselves on the wrong side of the law for a variety of reasons.
Robert Rozier: Former American football player
A former NFL player, Robert Rozier was convicted for murder in 1986. The American committed this terrible crime in order to join a sect. At his trial, he admitted to six other crimes.
Peter Storey: Former footballer
Younger people probably don't know him, but Peter Storey is an old Arsenal legend. After three years behind bars for theft and drug trafficking, he was caught once again running a brothel.
Mike Tyson: Former boxer
A boxing legend and former world heavyweight champion. In 1992, he was sentenced to six years in prison on charges of rape. The American spent three years behind bars.
Jovan Belcher: Former American Football player
In 2012, Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend, before killing himself in the car park of Arrowhead Stadium, in front of several of his teammates. Completely unprecedented.
Bruno Fernandes de Souza: Former footballer
In 2013, Bruno Fernandes de Souza was found guilty of the murder of his former girlfriend, who was also the mother of one of his children. The Brazilian admitted to having cut up his victim's body before feeding it to the dogs. An unspeakable atrocity for which he was sentenced to 22 years in prison. The former goalkeeper is currently serving his sentence under house arrest.
Marc Cécillon: Former rugby player
A former French international, Marc Cécillon was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2004 for the murder of his wife, who he killed when she tried to leave him. This murder was committed at a party where the former rugby player's blood alcohol level was 2.65 grams.
Mike Danton: Former ice hockey player
A former professional ice hockey player, Mike Danton was convicted in 2004 of conspiring to murder his former agent. Sentenced to 7 years in prison, he was released in 2009.
O.J. Simpson: Former American football player
One of the cases that turned America upside down. Former American football legend O.J. Simpson was convicted of murdering his former wife and a friend in 1994. Released the following year, he was in trouble with the law several more times and ended up serving 10 years in prison between 2007 and 2017 for armed robbery and kidnapping.
Godwin Okpara: Former football player
A former player for Paris Saint-Germain, Godwin Okpara was imprisoned for the rape of a minor, his adopted daughter, who was being forced to be his servant. He served a 10-year prison sentence.
Oscar Pistorius: Former sprinter
In 2013, Oscar Pistorius was imprisoned for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Initially acquitted, he was then sentenced in 2017 to serve a 13-year prison term.
