Following a successful last couple of years playing roles in Fifty Shades of Grey and most recently, the TV drama, The Tourist, Jamie Dornan could be well on his way to becoming the next James Bond.
Will the Northern Irishman be the new Bond?
According to leading bookmaker Coral, the 39-year-old former model has what it takes to play the iconic secret agent. He says:
Dornan has shown his talent in two very different roles recently in Belfast and The Tourist and we now think he's a leading contender to be the next James Bond. We've significantly cut the odds on the Northern Irishman being the next 007.
Most recently, Dornan has caught the attention of film critics around the world for his role in Belfast, which is being hinted at potentially earning him an Oscar nomination. And on top of his role as a serial killer in The Fall and car-crash victim in The Tourist, his star is nothing short of rising.
Interestingly, though Dornan is quickly making a name for himself in Hollywood, this might actually be more of a negative than anything else. Mark O'Connell, expert on all things Bond related and author of Catching Bullets: Memoirs of Bond Fan, has put forward the theory that popular heartthrobs rarely get the role.
Who else is being considered for the role?
But the Northern Irishman has some pretty hefty competition, as rumours have been running wild that Bridgerton's Rege-Jean Page will be taking up the role.
Additionally, Tom Hardy, James Norton, Richard Maddden and Jamie Bell have all been said to be strong contenders for the role.
