Nick Minogue experienced many people's worst nightmare this week when he came face to face with one of the most fearsome and deadly predators in the world. Thankfully, he lived to tell the tale, but not before the shark took a chunk out of his arm…

Nick had been surfing in the waters off of New Zealand's Coromandel Peninsula with two other surfers on Sunday morning when the monstrous shark appeared at his elbow.

Speaking to none.com.au, Nick said:

'I pulled my fist back and I yelled f*** off for it to go away. My first punch landed 10cm behind the eye. I pulled my fist back and got it direct hit. I was just fixated on the eye looking back. I didn't want to punch anywhere near its teeth.'

After hitting the great white twice around its eye, the shark began to retreat and Nick was able to swim away, making it safely back to shore. However, he didn't get away totally unscathed, as he then realised that his arm was bleeding where the shark had bitten through his wetsuit.

Despite his ordeal, Nick says he's just glad to still have all his fingers and arms and confirmed that he'll keep surfing - he's already been back in the water on a 'boys' surfing trip'! You wouldn't catch us back in the water so quickly!
