Filming The Ocean With Their Drone, They Captured One Of The Rarest Scenes In The World

This footage, captured by the University of Oregon is truly incredible. The people behind the camera surely won't be forgetting this scene for the rest of their lives.

This short sequence shows the aerial images of a huge blue whale, swimming a few metres below the surface of the water. The blue whale, which is the largest animal on earth and can reach 30 metres, is very difficult to observe under usual circumstances.

But drones, which are much quieter and more discreet than noisy helicopters, can capture this kind of unique moment without scaring away the imposing beast.

In this footage we can see the blue whale's very unique method of feeding. They turn on their sides to feed on their prey - tiny crustaceans known as krill - as they swim along.

This drone footage will be highly useful for researchers to find out more about these magnificent creatures. And for the rest of us it's quite simply fascinating to see!
