Almost Attacked By A Tiger Shark, This Diver Was Saved By Something Unexpected

In the South Pacific Ocean, a surreal scene unfolded between a biologist and a humpback whale. Thanks to the whale’s actions, the biologist lived to see another day.

After having spent her life studying and protecting whales, it was now American biologist Nan Hauser’s turn to be saved by them. It all happened in the waters just off the Cook Islands, where Hauser resides.

Preoccupied with the humpback whale, the biologist didn’t spot the tiger shark that was quickly approaching. Fortunately for her, the whale had noticed the oncoming shark and did what it could to keep her out of the shark’s sights: ‘I wasn't sure what the whale was up to when he approached me, and it didn't stop pushing me around for over 10 minutes. It seemed like hours. I was a bit bruised up’, Hauser stated. A second whale out of frame was also doing its part to protect the woman from the predator.

The whale that protected her with its fin even went as far as to lift the biologist entirely out of the water. ‘It's funny how the tables are turned here: I've spent the past 28 years protecting whales, and in the moment, I didn't even realise that they were protecting me’, concluded Hauser.
